Mount ISO on Supermicro Server via IPMI

< 1 min read

We recommend for maximum compatibility, you use the IPMIView tool to connect to your Supermicro dedicated server’s IPMI/iKVM.

IPMIView is available from the Supermicro website: https://www.supermicro.com/en/solutions/management-software/ipmi-utilities

When connected to the server via IPMIView, an ISO can be mouted and booted with the following steps:

  • In the KVM Console tab, select Java as the interface and then click Launch KVM Console.
  • When the Viewer window opens (this is the console output), click Virtual Media >> Virtual Storage.
  • Select ISO Image and Drive Type and then click Open Image, you’ll be able to browse your PC for the ISO.
  • When the ISO is selected, click Plug In to make the ISO available to the server.
  • Restart the server (via Power Control menu) and hit F11 when the server is at the post screen to bring up the boot override menu.
